LAGOS STATE BEGINS DEMOLITION OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES By Monsurat Fanimokun March 25th,2022 In a bid to rid the State of environmental nuisances and achieve the mandate of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Themes Agenda towards a cleaner Lagos, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has embarked on a joint operation with the Governors’ Office Special Project team, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources enforcement arm to demolish illegal structures on the Abule-Egba stretch of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway and the Agege area of the State. This disclosure was made by the Corps Marshal of the Agency, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu at the Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi. NDLEA SIZE 1.9 MILLION HARD DRUGS  By Monsurat Fanimokun   24th March, 2022 The National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have seized over 1.9 million tablets of Tramadol and Codeine imported into the country from Pakistan and United Kingdom through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.  The spokesman of NDLEA Femi Babafemi said in a statement yesterday that 40 cartons of Co-Codamol, a brand of paracetamol with Codeine, which is classified as Opioid, were seized from a freight agent. Babafemi said 349,800 tablets of the drug weighing 336kg came in from London as a consolidated cargo through the SAHCO Import Shed of the airport. He said the cargo was declared as personal effects . He said, no less than 1,584,000 tablets of Tramadol were recovered on March 15 by NDLEA operatives in collaboration with Aviation Security (AVSEC) and Customs personnel at the airport.   Lagos shuts damaged Apongbon Bridge as fire destroys market By Monsurat Fanimokun 24th March,2022 Image Source : News Technocrats  Lagos State Government has shut down Apongbon Bridge, after makeshift shops and containers under the bridge gutted fire on Wednesday.  It was learnt that the fire, which started around 3am, damaged the bridge, as property and goods worth millions of naira were also destroyed. As some traders lamented their losses, few residents struggled to salvage their property.  The incident created gridlock, leaving many commuters stranded.  Some motorists bemoaned being trapped in the traffic, other motorists used alternative routes.  Though there was no record of death, Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority had a tough time directing vehicular movements in the area. EFCC Releases Obiano, S eizes Passport By Monsurat Fanimokun 24th March, 2022 Willie Obiano,  former Governor of Anambra State  has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after one week. Obiano was arrested hours after handing over to his successor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his way to the United States. On Wednesday, the anti-graft agency granted the former governor administrative bail, while waiting for him to fulfil his bail conditions. As part of his bail condition, the EFCC also withheld his passport. It was reported that Obiano was in custody over the alleged misappropriation of N42 billion belonging to Anambra State. “Obiano was arrested for alleged misappropriation of public funds, including, N5 billion Sure-P and N37 billion security vote which was withdrawn in cash.  By Monsurat Fanimokun LAGESC frowns at motorcycles plying pedestrian bridges in Lagos The Lagos State Government has noted with dismay how commercial motorcyclists (Okada), dispatch riders and men of the Nigeria Armed Forces in official uniform and mufti have virtually turned the wheelchair ramps on pedestrian bridges to make-shift bridges for crossing to the opposite lanes on major expressways in the State. The Corps Marshal of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), CP Gbemisola Akinpelu ( retd) disclosed this today at the Agency Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi.
